Cooperative Governance of Transboundary Water in Greater Mekong Subregion: Challenges in the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation

Rivers not only provide the most basic water resources but also pertain to national strategic with crucial implications. When it comes international relationships, transboundary management is a major topic under discussion. Nowadays, numerous riparian countries worldwide are involved in issue of governance. Better cooperative governance among could facilitate economic progress and enhance sustainable development. This paper took Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) as case study, analyzed challenges Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, put forward prospective solutions address these problems hope deepening cooperation managing shared within river basin further providing potential support for By employing combination qualitative quantitative methods, found that current GMS mainly: disputes over benefit distribution upstream downstream, different utilization complex coordination, multi-player games GMS.
